Property Damage Liability and Collision Coverages

Property Damage Liability Coverage is required in the State of Florida, but Only in the amount of
$10,000.00. We say only because in this day and time, repairs or total loss of a vehicle can easily exceed that
minimum amount of coverage.

Property Damage Liability Coverage pays for property damage caused by the At Fault Party. Rental car
expense and/or loss of use incurred by the victims of the collision are covered under this coverage as well,
which further reduces the available coverage amount.
Furthermore, if there are multiple vehicles damaged by the At Fault Driver in the collision, that means more
parties are trying to obtain property damage reimbursement from that limited coverage resource.
Collision Coverage is Voluntary coverage that you can purchase that will pay for your property damage
regardless of fault. It also is not limited to a set amount of coverage; thus it will pay for the actual cost of
your repairs, or the Fair Market Value of your vehicle if it is deemed a total loss. You will incur a deductible for
whatever amount you agreed to under your auto insurance policy contract, typically $250.00 to $2,000.00,
but then your insurance company will pursue reimbursement of that deductible amount from the At Fault
Party’s $10,000.00 in Property Damage Liability Coverage if you were the victim of the collision.
Collision Coverage does not pay for rental car, nor loss of use of your vehicle, so this would be a damage you
would still have to seek from the At Fault Party’s Property Damage Liability Coverage. You can also purchase
Rental Car Coverage under your own auto policy to cover that expense as well.
In our opinion, Collision Coverage is invaluable and should be purchased by you, as we are seeing many
cases where our client’s property damage losses far exceed the minimum $10,000.00 in Property Damage
Liability Coverage that the At Fault Parties have typically purchased, especially in cases where there are
multiple vehicles involved in the collision who also have claims of property damage against the At Fault
Party’s Coverage.
